Recently, your stewards were invited to “Dinner On The Farm” at Massaro Community Farm of Woodbridge, CT to share how vital the farm’s support has been for our Pantry Community.
Massaro Farm has regularly donated and delivered their surplus produce and eggs to the pantry. These items are fresh, organic, sustainably sourced, AND critically needed by our residents.
Massaro Farm also supports a total of 13 Community Gardens🥗 throughout the Valley which, in many cases, provide fresh produce for anyone to take, no questions asked.
When we have had conversations with our neighbors, fresh produce has been the food group that they report is most difficult to obtain.
Even residents who have access to the food bank are only receiving food ONCE PER MONTH. This means unless they are canning, freezing, or preserving their own food, the produce simply won’t last until the next trip.
This is why collaboration with our local farmers AND gardeners is SO IMPORTANT.
We DEEPLY appreciate the support of Massaro Farm and all the effort they put into helping our communities live and grow.
We also know that it is going to take more than one relationship with a farm to keep our neighbors fed.
That is why we are working with our neighbors and local nonprofits to further expand our Community Garden and maximize its yield. We also are looking to start a Local Garden Club which would meet monthly and help cultivate relationships with local gardeners, provide mentorship opportunities for those interested in growing their own food, and foster a sense of community among those with interest in helping both themselves and their neighbors.
So now you know the plan our giant pile of wood chips (donated and delivered by KES Landscaping and Tree Removal) and you also know our plans for the future.
