Things That Fill Our Hearts

Things that fill our hearts as pantry stewards:
When our neighbors stop to smell and touch the produce in the garden
When both the pantry and cooler are completely filled
When visitors’ children spot us and wave vigorously from the car
When people tell us they feel welcome here
When we are unloading the car and get to help visitors shop from our driveway
When we get to meet our neighbors and learn about who they are outside their pantry visits
When people take things from the pantry for their family, friends, neighbors, and even themselves
When we sees bunnies, hummingbirds, butterflies, and all kinds of other pollinators in the garden
When we go out to water or stock the pantry and catch a gorgeous sunset
When we find new book donations in the little free library, especially titles we’ve read hundreds of times
When people get excited about finding the pantry or coolers full
When people, especially children, notice all the little touches of magic in the garden
When we receive donations of any size
When we consider just how many people and organizations come together to take
care of our neighbors
So while there’s a lot of heaviness and grief in what we do, there’s SO MUCH more goodness. In fact, we have a front seat to the BEST in humanity everyday. That just might be the thing that fills us most. Everyone deserves to see how beautiful life can be. If you can’t see it right now, you can borrow our view.
Sending you all so much love today.
