TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. LEAVE WHAT YOU CAN.

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

Welcome to the official Little Free Pantry on Skokorat blog! We’re so glad you’re here!

The purpose of this creative space is to help share updates about our latest pantry projects and goals. However before we jump into where we’re headed, we want to take a moment to bring everyone up to spend on what the Little Free Pantry Movement is and how the pantry works.

The idea behind the mini pantry movement is for communities to provide assistance to their neighbors. The needs of the individuals using the pantry can vary widely. Some people use the pantry because they can’t afford food. Others are not able to get out to the store. Some may have a reduced budget for groceries due to an unexpected or even expected a expense. Sometimes it’s a mom (or dad) who only needs to pick up a few items, but can’t bring her kids into the store or hire a sitter. Some days it’s a person donating items they have a surplus of in exchange for other items that are harder for them to come by. Occasionally it’s someone passing through the neighborhood who happens to be hungry or thirsty. Or it could just be a neighbor who needs a cup or sugar in the middle of baking. The point is to take what you need and leave what you can.

The pantry is open 24/7 for whoever needs it whether that need is for a day or on a regular basis.

HOW CAN I HELP?

There are many ways you can help our Pantry with its mission!

For starters you can like, follow, and share our website, social media accounts and posts. By increasing our visibility, you can help us reach more people who may benefit from using the pantry as well as those who may be interested in providing support in our mission.

You can also help by donating! The items in the pantry are entirely donated by the community. Most people donate directly into the pantry. We have a few storage bins by our garage door for people to place donations when the pantry is full or the donation is too large to fit. We also have people who donate through our Amazon Wishlist which we try to update and share regularly as needs change.

WHAT CAN I GIVE?

-Snacks (crackers, cookies, chips, popcorn, granola, fruit snacks, pretzels, etc)

-Nonperishables (pasta, cans and packets of meats like tuna and chicken, sugar, cookie mixes, flour)

-Toiletries (paper towels, toilet paper, soap, deodorant, shampoo)

-Toys/books (crayons, books, coloring books, small puzzles, chalk, bubbles)

For safety reasons, we would like to avoid some items including sharps (lancets, razors), glass (including glass jars), medications/supplements, and expired foods items.

HOW CAN I RECEIVE HELP?

It’s super simple! You just come take whatever you need. The pantry (and cooler) are restocked throughout the day with new donations both by our amazing community members and our stewards. You can follow our Facebook page for regular updates on what types of items are stocked in the pantry. We also do our best to accommodate special requests and provide delivery to those who need it. Because we function completely on donations, our supply is not always predictable.

As pantry stewards, we hope our neighbors view the pantry as belonging to the entire community rather than just one family. When communities are able to come together there is no reason for anyone to go hungry.
